One Last Gift

Sneak Peek:

. . . Suddenly there was a horrifying crack, like a huge crevasse opening up in a ten-mile glacier.

Mont, realizing their situation immediately, yelled, "Avalanche! Follow me down!"

It happened so fast Kayla didn’t get a chance to catch her breath. The snow beneath her seemed to come alive and push its way down the mountainside. The roar it made deafened her.

Mont turned his skis down the steep slope and fairly flew down the mountain side. Glancing back, he saw that Kayla was just a few feet behind him with Sparky about the same distance behind her.

Kayla's heart raced faster than her skis as she followed after Mont at break neck speed. The snow beneath her was no longer solid but shifted like some white quick sand wanting to swallow her completely. Vaguely she remembered what she had been warned about keeping her skis together and her knees slightly bent. She tried not to think about the avalanche. Instead she placed all her concentration on watching and imitating every movement Mont made in front of her.

She could hardly keep up with Mont as she felt the snow toss her around like a limp doll. It seemed like some white monster was using her for a toy. She felt a huge hand of snow toss her about, tumble her around, tip her over and upright her once again. It seemed as though she was flying higher and higher into the crisp winter sky.

Sparky was also tossed around by the snow, but he seemed oblivious to it. He stretched out his hands with all his strength, releasing his hold on his poles as he pushed the bottom of  Kayla’s skis heavenward, as though trying to toss her even higher.

For a few brief moments it seemed to Kayla that time actually stood still. She felt herself flying through the air and realized that the snow structure beneath her had become a viable, raging monster. The roaring around her had completely deafened her and she could no longer hear herself think. She looked down and watched in amazement as the tops of the trees went sailing by below her, some of them breaking like match sticks. She wondered if she'd already died and her spirit was flying above the avalanche. Her body turned head over heels at least twice that she counted. In one of these somersaults she saw Sparky reaching out for her. He was holding her skis, pushing her up toward the sky.

Suddenly she felt something hard strike both her legs causing the most excruciating pain she had ever felt in her entire life. Her shins felt like they were on fire. The agonizing pain within them soon became unbearable. Her mouth opened in an effort to scream out, but nothing could be heard above the awful, terrible roaring of the white monster.

Then the oddest thing of all occurred. Kayla saw a beautiful woman dressed in clothing far whiter than the snow around her. The woman reached out in front of her and took Kayla’s hands in hers, then crossed Kayla’s arms over her face, forming a small tunnel for Kayla’s face to rest. The angelic woman seemed exquisitely divine beyond all belief, with sparkling auburn hair and tender brown eyes, much like Kayla’s.

Maybe I'm dead, thought Kayla. It was her last conscious thought . . . .

The award-winning Gift Series

You’re going to love all five novels in my popular Gift Series. Each book will take you on the individual sojourns of Kayla Dawn Allen and the five men who have influenced her life for good: the Sparkleman boys, Ed, Abbot and Tom, who grew up with Kayla on the Bar M Ranch; and the seafaring Clark twins, Joshua (who loves Kayla more than life itself) and Hans (who is always one step behind in finding his soul-mate). Each novel will plunge you into a miraculous, spine-tingling journey about life, love, heartache and triumphant joy.
